Resurfacing of roads in Macassar, Firgrove, Strand, Somerset West and Kuils River begins

The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate would like to advise residents, road users and businesses in the Macassar, Firgrove, Strand, Somerset West and Kuils River areas of roadworks that will take place along various roads until the end of March 2026. Work will take place between 07:00 and 17:00 from Monday to Friday. Read more below:
‘Our Road Infrastructure Management department will be doing road resurfacing in the eastern region of our city, including areas such as Strand; Somerset West; Macassar; Firgrove and Kuils River from now until the end of March, if all goes according to plan. The road works in Strand commenced last week and a team will start in Macassar today, 19 January 2026. Residents in Somerset West and Firgrove can expect works to start later this month. Maintaining our roads is one of the ways in which we continue to keep Cape Town moving,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The planned roadworks will take place along the following roads in each area:
Macassar
Lah Street; Mes Street; Doh Street; Fah Street; Ray Street; Mountain Rose Road; Nandina Road; Anthurium Road; Fuschia Road; Tulip Road; Dahlia Road; Orchid Road and Amaryllis Road
Firgrove
Grove Street; Sixth Street; Fifth Street and Eike Avenue
Strand
Johanna Presence Street; Ebrahim Bazier Crescent; Jamiah Gafaldien Street; John Wyngaard Street; Lodewyk Street; Forbes Street; Third Street; Fourth Street; Albatros Street; Hofmeyer Street; Van der Spuy Street; Van der Merwe Street; Alex Pienaar Street; Leipoldt Street; Scarbrow Street; Neethling Street; Cradock Street and Morkel Street
Somerset West
Tharina Street; Kleinbos Lane and Drakenstein Street
Kuils River
Vlei Street; Talana Road; Kamp Street; Maze Street; Mouton Street; Liedla Street; Harmonie Street; Aristo Street; Sara Goldblat Avenue; Loeloeraai Street; Rosenow Street; Bosbokkie Street; Eland Street; Planeet Street and Duiker Street
The project entails the resurfacing and rehabilitation of these roads and repair work of isolated kerbs and channels. Regular maintenance such as this prolongs the longevity of the City’s road network.
‘Residents are advised that congestion in these areas can be expected since traffic travelling in both directions will be affected, therefore road users are urged to consider alternative routes while roadworks is under way. We ask that residents please remain vigilant in and around the roadworks area, look out for uneven road surfaces and be mindful of the construction workers,’ said Quintas.
